Effigy Mounds National Monument

Today we got on the road around 1:30pm central time. We drove to Effigy Mounds National Monument in Harper’s Ferry, Iowa. It’s located right over the Mississippi river. The real attraction is of course the mounds and there are hiking trails all around the area. However, it was almost 100 degrees today and we thought we might melt hiking up bluffs to see the mounds. So we didn’t go see the mounds in person, we looked at pictures in the visitor center, checked out the Native American museum, and then got back on the road.

After that stop we drove up to Austin, MN and started looking for a place to camp. That’s when we learned about the severe weather warning. Very quickly the storm was upon us and Finn fought powerful winds to keep us on the road. We moved slowly through it trying to get to our campground. Finally, we made it there in the pouring rain, got a spot, and tucked ourselves in for the night.

Something wicked this way comes
