Yesterday we shipped 14 boxes full of stuff we’ll use in the RV off to Wisconsin. I feel like we were pretty strict with our editing of the stuff but it seemed like a lot of stuff anyway. We’ll have roughly 400 pounds of cargo weight available and that’s what we shipped. This means that we’ll want to travel with only a partially full water tank to keep us under the GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating) of 11,030 lbs. The water tank holds 240 pounds so we should be able to manage this fairly easily, but we will be working very close to the limit. This obviously means we can never take on fresh water without also dumping the waste water tanks. Failure to keep that rule could add 500 pounds and cause a tire blowout.

On a side-note, when FedEx picked up the boxes, the driver put every box on his cart despite Kate’s concerns and assured her he could handle it. Well, when it came time to navigate the one step at our front door, the Cart tipped over and every box fell to the sidewalk. We won’t know if anything was damaged until we get to Wisconsin. Keep your fingers crossed that it’s all ok.

A suggestion: Get the book Road Food; heard the authors on Lynne Rosetto Kasper’s Splendid Table (NPR) talking about good food places they found across the country and it sounded great. You may have an RV with kitchen but if you get off the Interstates and travel the blue highways you’ll want to know about local places with regional dishes.

Now I can’t wait for you to arrive also.

Thanks for taking in our stuff. We’ll be there in less than a week!
